This thread discusses the Content article: Richey nervous about going before cameras
All those connected with the investigation, trial and conviction of Kenny Richey who survive, are twenty years older and hopefully wiser than in 1987. Sadly this does not appear the case regarding Kenny Richey, from his comments in the Greg Sowinski article in the Lima News, " Richey nervous about going in front of the cameras". He seems to have been re-infected with "foot-in-mouth" disease. The guy seems determined to devalue eveything that his supporters have done to further his case for a retrial. The Greg Sowinski piece displays Richey at his self-destructing best. He certainly knows how to grasp defeat from the victory of obtaining a retrial by using his acknowledged weapon of choice, his mouth! We have a saying in Scotland that he probably never considers, ”before opening your mouth to speak, first engage your brain”. With references to his son and ex-wife who have been, with his siblings and father Jim Richey, conspicuous by their absence from media comment, Kenny paints a picture of some-one totally engrossed by self. The fact is that the 2005 retry or release order was the catalyst to the "unification" of the family, based on the potential of compensatory income. This man, whom I believe to be innocent of the charges for which he was given the death penalty, has yet again resorted to behaviour that tests the resolve of those who support his cause. Why must he alienate possible jurors, co-inmates of Putnam County jail and generally make an ass of himself. He has been advised as to how he should behave regarding media and obviously chooses to ignore that advice, but if he thinks that part of my support for his innocence encompasses liposuction, make-overs and perhaps ordering the media photographers to Vaseline their lenses to soften the focus and make him look better, then he is sadly mistaken. In place of cosmetic surgery I would support the application of a muzzle to help prevent further self-harm. The application of a pertinent Scottish quote that Richey may be unaware of, may prove to be effective, "Shut yer mooth Kenny an' gie yer erse a chance!" If he doesn't, he'll be left with his dad Jim Richey, his son an ex-wife Wendy and his brothers in America to carry on the fight that they have dis-associated themselves from. Perhaps they will buy him a kilt and a glengarry for the bail hearing, After all this garbage, a plea of insanity to the charge of consideration of supporters could undoubtedly be justified. The only thing I can find to say good about Kenny's latest 'open mouth, disengage brain' statements is that maybe now the American public will realise that most of the 'hot air' statements he's credited with, were no more than that. Kenny Richey was born in the wrong time - the Goodyear Balloon would never have gone down if he'd been around. Could've kept if afloat all on his own.... |
Well, here is why I'm always exasperated at times in this case. Everyone works hard and boom, the 'mouth' does it again. I'm sure its a 'genetic thing'. When I first read the article, I was shaking my head in complete exasperation. Today, I'm just resolute that at least this time, his mouth can't counter the facts of his innocence, and I'm hopeful that the courts will see past the "bluff and bluster" and view the facts of innocence as they stand.
I realize that Kenny can't obviously understand the importance of what is going on at the moment, when he makes self absorbed comments such as he did in this article. His self destructive character flaw ended him in the current position he is in now, YET he still in all these years, heeds advice and barrels down this journey with total self interest. Such is his life.
However, its obvious that this new part of this case isn't going to sail through smooth waters, whether its Kenny who causes ripples or others, IF Kenny can't stay focused, we must.
For all his a mischievous faults that exacerbate his situation and cause many to become exasperated beyond endurance, he is an innocent man. Showing his innocence has to override at all times. Its never been an easy journey, many times I've personally wanted to send the man duct tape with instructions, " use before engaging mouth". But, I'll troop on in the hopes that he shall "get it" and understand the seriousness of his situation and act his age and not his shoe size. In criticizing, the teacher is hoping to teach. That's all. Bankei |
In situations like this, the media is either your "friend" or your "enemy". Kenny needs to understand that. No matter how nice or engaging a reporter may seem, you CANNOT let your guard down and say things that come off to the "general public" as arrogant, stupid, irrelevent, etc. IT WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU - somehow, someway.
His comment about the other inmate making motions to Kenny and then Kenny's response...TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE.
