Charity praises Richey decision

A HUMAN rights charity today welcomed the news that evidence in the case of Death Row Scot Kenny Richey will be reconsidered.

The court in Cincinnati will look at Richey's case in January next year.

Richey, 42, who has a Scottish mother and grew up in Edinburgh, was sentenced to death in 1987 after being convicted of murdering two-year-old Cynthia Collins by setting fire to her mother's apartment in Ohio. News of the hearing was welcomed today by Amnesty International.

Spokeswoman Rosemary Burnett said: "This decision by the 6th Circuit Court of Appeal is hugely welcomed by all of those who have believed that for nearly 20 years Kenny Richey has been denied justice in Ohio.

"This is an opportunity for Kenny's lawyers to tell his story."
