With the execution of Kevin Kincy on March 29, 2006, Texas has already carried out seven executions this year and 362 since the death penalty was resumed in the state in 1982. Twelve more executions are planned through early August, making Texas the most prolific killing state in the Western Hemisphere.
A convicted killer from Toledo is speaking out, 1 month before his scheduled execution. Joseph Clark is on death row for the 1984 murder of David Manning. He spoke one-on-one with News 11's Shelley Brown from the prison in Youngstown where he's living out his last days.
Ohio's death row is where inmates go to die - some by injection, others by natural causes. But not always. In the past 25 years, 20 inmates were executed and 19 died in prison. However, 54 inmates originally slated for death had their sentences vacated, reduced to life in prison or commuted by the governor, according to the 2005 Capital Crimes report issued by Attorney General Jim Petro. None have been released.
