For those of you who do not know me, my name is Shirley Dicks and my son was killed by medical neglect on mothers' day 1998. After that, I started the Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition www.jeffdicks.org in order to help other family members not to get their loved ones back home in a box like I did my son. It's been a long hard four years since his death and we've tried to impress on families of prisoners how important it is for them to help us stamp out this brutality of medical abuses that are killing more prisoners each year than the death penalty does. We need people willing to write a few letters a month, maybe ten or twenty in order to save lives.
Lives that one-day could affect them. We've tried to get everyone who has a loved one in prison to join the JDMC, and we have some great members, but we need more. Great people who write those letters faithfully each month when needed, who take time out of their busy lives to try and save lives because it's wrong what they are doing. Perhaps you'd like to be one of those people helping other prisoners.
Prisoners are put in prison to serve time for the crime they committed, or not committed as the case may be. No matter what they are there for, no one should be denied medical care, beaten abused and killed because it cost too much for medicines or treatment. We have to stand up and be counted. We have to write those letters that is needed to save these lives. I don't want anyone to go through losing his or her child for a simple reason as not getting medicine. I don't want other families to suffer as we are still suffering because we no longer have our loved one to visit, to hold and to talk to.
If people do not want to join us, perhaps if I were to put some of the worst alerts out on the list, they would at least write some of the letters, to save someone else's child or husband, brother or sister or even a friend. I no longer have someone in prison, but I care about those who do.
I want them to come back home to them one day. Let me know which lists would be willing to get these alerts and I will put them on when we get the ones that are life threatening. Email me and if you'd care to join the JDMC, let me know that as well. Perhaps if you'd like to help and do not want to write letters, you could donate a few stamps once in awhile to help with our mailing, or print our newsletters out to send in to your own loved ones. It would all be of help to us and to you in the long run.
The states that we still need coordinators for are: AK, CO, HI , NV, NM, NY, OR, PA, WI, WY, SC NC AR, AZ, DE, , IA, KS, ME, NH, NJ, RI, UT, VA, VT, WV
If you live in this state and would like to be state coordinator for medical in there, let me know.
I know it's up to each moderator of the lists to allow it or not allow it, so if you'd just let me know I will plan on sending any alerts to one person or the group, or perhaps one person in each group would join our alerts list. That list is only for the alerts and nothing more. That way they could report any life threatening alerts and take it back to their own group.....thanks Shirley Dicks
