Djinn Buckingham: Appalling case of a child in prison

Sunday, 17 February 2008

At the age of twelve, Djinn Buckingham was arrested and convicted for the house fire, and death of his cousin Sierra. He was charged with criminal homicide, one count of arson, six counts of irritated assault and six counts of reckless endangerment. His family and supporters say he did not do it.

I would like to bring to your attention the case of a child in the Stroudsburg, Pa. area that needs help. I have been trying to give this child help but many avenues and approaches have fallen upon deaf ears. The child's name is Djinn Buckingham-he was arrested at the age of 12 for the crimes of arson and murder. After a long questioning session with State Police & the Fire Marshall, they engaged Djinn in fantasy conversation and created a fictitious statement that he confessed. There is no verbal or written confession-the questioning session was not taped or recorded in any way. For background on this please see the following link:

There are many serious questions that remain about this questioning and how he was treated by the authorities questioning him, this child was also severely learning disabled and was under the influence of several prescribed medications-some of which were not to be administered to anyone under 18. After his arrest-he stated that he didn't set the fire in which his cousin was killed, was scared and intimidated and that he didn't confess to anything. This child spent several months in the Monroe County Correctional Facility-an adult jail-before his trial. During this period he was not allowed contact with his family and after his trial he did plea guilty. He was sentenced to an open ended sentence and can be released at 18 possibly 21 or if certain factors kick in 25. He is 14 now and has been placed at the Cornell Abraxas Youth Center-in there Secure Treatment Unit. Since his placement he has stated once again that he is innocent and was forced into pleading guilty-by his Public Defender and the State Psychiatrist and that they made him plea guilty to something he didn't do. I honsetly believe this child is innocent-and I feel that in my heart. I feel led to help this child but as I said previously all of my pleas for help have fallen upon mostly deaf ears. This child should be given a fair day in court and allowed to say what happened. I am trying to raise the funds to help this child and get him back into court-but our only option as I understand would be to go to the State Supreme Court to seek relief-to do that an attorney would be very expensive. I would like to ask and see if I may enlist help in this matter. I have also attached some pictures of this child to this email and have also added some URL addresses for you to see that this child is truely deserving of our help. I appreciate your time and consideration in this matter.
