Death Row Scot's ex set to marry former husband

Thursday, 10 August 2006

The ex-fiancee of Death Row Scot Kenny Richey is to marry her former husband.

Karen Torley, 43, got engaged to postal worker Frank, 44, months after being dumped by Richey, who has spent more than 20 years on Death Row in Ohio after being convicted of murdering a two-year-old girl. He has always maintained his innocence.

Ms Torley said: "A few months ago, Frank and I, who had been married previously, began to get close again and we fell in love. We decided to make a new life together just recently."

She added: "My work against the death penalty and fighting injustice will continue as it always has. It is something I have a deep belief in. I have the full support of Frank and my family on this." Earlier this week, Torley revealed that she had asked for President George Bush's help to secure Richey's freedom - despite stepping down from his campaign.

She said last month she was finished with the campaign to free him after he accused her of being a "gold-digging drunk".

But after Richey's latest heart attack, Ms Torley wrote to ask the United States president to intervene in the case and to abolish the death penalty.
