Supreme Court acquits condemned inmate, citing weak evidence

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Supreme Court unanimously ordered the acquittal of a death row inmate Thursday, saying prosecutors had not proven he had killed two of his neighbors by smashing their skulls with a blunt object.

John Robert Ballard, 37, has served nearly three years for the 1999
murders of Jennifer Jones and Willie Ray Patin Jr. at their Collier
County apartment, even though there was little to connect him to the
slayings of his friends.

Execution's delay reflects fight over injections

A California murderer represents a new wrinkle in the opposition to lethal
injection, a widely used execution method that has come under court
challenge over claims that it could cause a dying inmate extreme pain.

The on-again, off-again execution of Michael Morales, on death row for
raping and murdering a 17-year-old girl in 1981, was off again late
Tuesday when the state attorney's office told a federal judge that it
could not comply with his order that a medical professional inject the
lethal drugs.

She greatly needs your assistance. An Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament asking the British Government to do all it can on her behalf has been tabled by MPs Vera Baird, John Gummer and Jenny Willott. It is vital that this is well supported, as the more MPs that sign it, the more likely the British Government are to provide meaningful assistance to Linda's case, as her appeals continue. SAN QUENTIN ? The scheduled execution of convicted murderer-rapist Michael Morales was postponed this morning after court-ordered anesthesiologists refused to participate in the process. The prison warden abruptly changed plans and announced that the inmate would be executed with a lethal dose of barbiturates.
