Graves still behind bars despite efforts to free him

A Brenham man jailed for almost 15 years for capital murder remains behind bars despite efforts to free him on bail.

A jailer at the Burleson County lockup confirmed this morning that Anthony Graves were still in that facility, despite some reports that he had been freed on bail.

A Houston TV station reported last week that Graves had been freed on bond after a federal magistrate recommended a $50,000 bond be set.

The brother of a Leeds man on death row in Pakistan has made an urgent
appeal for his life after hearing he is to be executed in two weeks.
Mirza Tahir Hussain, 36, is set to be hanged on 1 November for the murder of
a taxi driver 18 years ago.

His brother Amjad and Amnesty International have called on Pakistan's
president to halt the execution.

WARREN - A team of prosecutors are looking to gain a murder conviction and ultimately send the 11th Trumbull County defendant to Ohio's death row.

For now, jury selection continues Monday in an effort to seat a panel of 12 people and four alternates who will hear the case of Jermaine McKinney, the 26-year-old Youngstown man who goes by the street name of ‘‘Maniac'' and faces capital murder charges in the December murder of a mother and daughter in Newton Township.

13 freed from death row speak out against referendum

MADISON - Juan Melendez says he prayed the rosary five times a day while he was on Florida's death row, looking for a miracle to exonerate him for a 1983 murder he didn't commit.

His miracle came more than 17 years later when his conviction was overturned, but he says he's convinced other innocent inmates were not as lucky.
