oday, the state board of pardons and paroles denied clemency to Jack Alderman. He's been on death row since being convicted of killing his wife in 1974 in Southeast Georgia.
The denial means the state will put Alderman to death tonight.
Today's decision came hours after religious figures, a school teacher and Alderman's father told the board what they learned about the man after visiting him over his 34 years in prison.
They told stories of Alderman's spiritual growth, how he's helped educate other inmates and they argued Alderman had nothing to do with his wife's death.
Despite their testimony, one of Alderman's lawyers, James Ringer, says the case is coming to an end.
RINGER: There's not a whole lot of strategy left quite frankly. We do have a pending application in the US Supreme Court, which we haven't heard a decision on. But all we can do for that is wait.
Ringer is also waiting to see if the Georgia Supreme Court will stay the execution, which is now set for tonight at 7.
