Terrorist threat regarding Kenny's Campaign

Sunday, 18 February 2007

This is the threat.

There was a news article today in the "Scottish News of the World" newspaper with the heading, "We'll kill Yanks if Kenny dies"

Threats have been sent to this newspaper claiming that, "If Richey is put to death, Americans will be killed in Scotland. Blood for Blood"

Phone calls have stated, according to the News of the World, "We won't tolerate the unlawful and unjust torture of any Scot. Richey has been held for 20 years under the sentence of death. Americans can no longer expect the generosity of our nation"

The threats were made by extremists claiming to represent the Scottish National Liberation Army, masterminded by ex-soldier Adam Busby, 57. In 2001 the group sent parcels of lethal anthrax to Government agencies. They where also behind a 2002 acid package attack on Cherrie Blair and have tried to poison water supplies in cities down south.

Manchester police are probing claims his group have put cancer causing chemicals into the city's water.

This is the reality:

The Kenny Richey Campaign does not endorse in any way whatsoever, this organisation or its stated views. Neither Kenny or myself have any affiliation with this sick group and did not contribute in any way to this article. A brief call to me for comment  would have placed a totally different emphasis to the piece, but in the world of tabloid journalism, balance is often the last thing to be considered.

Our campaign does not advocate violence, is based on the search for justice and truth, and peacefully seeks to establish the innocence of Kenny Richey, based on the application of legal means in the courts of Ohio.

Adam Busby has shown in the recent past that this is not a route that he would be likely to adopt. The threats claimed to be from the Scottish National Liberation Army are an offence to the millions of Scots who show their maturity by ignoring the rantings of this sad organisation.

This "MacRambo Clan" is so much out of place in the world most of us inhabit, that there is a danger that we will all laugh ourselves to death at their gang-hut mentality.

Our American friends and supporters may nevertheless be alarmed and perhaps the paper will be charitable enough to recognise this and offer a belated balanced view. Some constructive comment on the Richey case at this crucial time from this newspaper would have been appreciated.
