DEATH Row Scot Kenny Richey has been left devastated after his best friend in prison was executed.
Murderer James Filiaggi, 41, was put to death by lethal injection on Tuesday, moments after telling Richey to "stay strong".
He also gave a thumbs up to his family as he was being strapped to the table and later smiled and repeated the gesture with his priest.
"I want to say thanks to my family for all the support," he said. "I'm sorry I flipped up the world."
Filiaggi also referred to Richey in his final statement, saying there were "innocent men" on Death Row, and called for the death sentence to be abolished altogether.
Richey, 42, who grew up in Edinburgh, has been awaiting execution for more than 20 years, after being convicted of arson and murder in Ohio in 1986.
