Prosecutors oppose bid to move Richey trial

Tuesday, 06 November 2007

PROSECUTORS in Ohio preparing to re-try Kenny Richey have opposed an attempt to have the trial moved to another court.

Lawyers representing Richey, 43, who was raised in Edinburgh, have argued he will not be able to get a fair trial in Putnam County, where he was sentenced to death after he was found guilty of killing two-year-old Cynthia Collins in an apartment fire in 1986. They presented 426 newspaper articles, letters to the editor or editorials about the case to demonstrate how difficult it would be to find a jury unaware of the details. Putnam County Prosecutor Gary Lammers has now filed a written opposition to the request.
