Kenny Richey
News reports and inaccuracies There have been some inaccuracies and downright lies. Today we try to correct this.
There have been some really decent articles that have covered Kenny's case and the campaign over the years and especially this past few weeks.
To all who took time to research things properly, we thank you. It is appreciated when this happens.
This article says,
"Firefighters had to struggle with Richey, who was trying to get into the burning upstairs apartment to save the toddler. Nita Maag, an emergency services worker who tended to him, said she vividly remembers him saying that he started the fire."
"I don't think he intended to hurt the child," Maag said. "But he admitted it. He should pay the price."
"Maag was upset by the court ruling."
This is a statement in the article from the Associated press in Toledo wrote re Kenny. funny how someone would say something like this now and not when everything has been investigated by all sorts of people including including several Ohio media. Very dilligently actually. Not one time in all these years has anyone ever said anything other than what is now a matter of public record.
This woman isn't even part of the record. Anyway, I have sent this statement and the article to the attorneys. I have however spoken to Kenny. And if this woman HAD been part of the record, don't you think the prosecution would have had her as the STAR witness? She doesn't even feature !! Whether she has been misquoted or not, I don't know but it is not the truth.
Kenny DID NOT struggle with fire fighters. he struggled with cops who removed him for his own safety because he kept trying to get back into the apartment to save little Cynthia.
Kenny was NEVER treated by anyone from EMS at the scene or anywhere else.
Kenny did not have any injuries for the woman to tend to. The worst he had was smoke inhalation and no one treated him for that either.
Kenny NEVER met this woman and NEVER EVER once admitted he set the fire. He has steadfastly refused to admit to something he didn't do and has the evidence to support that this was not an arson fire.
This is an outright lie. Kenny was put with Chief of Police in a police cruiser Thomas Miller. He sat in the cruiser with Kenny from the moment Kenny was brought down for his own safety till they took him to the police station to make a voluntary statement about the whereabouts of Hope and what he had seen. This is all part of the trial transcript.
Nowhere does it mention Kenny being treated by anyone from EMS at the scene or elsewhere. Nowhere does it mention that Kenny made some "confession" to this person. Nowhere!!! because Kenny NEVER did say this.
Everyone who knows Kenny knows how adamant he is that he is innocent. And we have the proof of this!
It is sad when things like this are printed in newspapers without any basis in truth.
Sadly these are not the only ones to be printed about either Kenny or myself and all we can do is correct them where possible right now.
However, as ever there are still those inaccurate ones who write stories which are either untrue or filled with errors.
I would like to correct some of these misconceptions today.
Hope Collins was NOT Kenny's ex girlfriend. Yes she was little Cynthia's mother. Candice Barchet was the ex girlfriend who was in the apartment BELOW Hope's. It was alleged Kenny set fire to Hope's apartment to kill Candice Barchet and her new boyfriend Mike Nichols.
The next one is a recent one. A headline suggested that Kenny was refusing to leave death row in case someone stabbed him.
This is totally UNTRUE.
When Kenny's conviction was overturned, as is standard practice( since technically he is no longer a DR inmate) he was asked if he wanted to go to DR 5, which is the hole and Protective Custody.
Kenny said, "No I want to stay where I am. My buddies are all here"
The guard said, "I thought you would say that but had to ask anyway"
That's the story plain and simple.
I just thought I would get that off my chest
