Kenny Richey Could Be Free Today

Kenny Richey has spent 20 years on death row After spending twenty years on death row in the US, Kenny Richey could be freed from jail today.

The 43-year-old from Edinburgh faces a bail hearing in Ohio after judges overturned his conviction for murder and arson two months ago.

Richey had been sentenced to death in 1987 for starting a fire which killed a two year old girl. Today he could be released for the first time in 21 years or a date set for a retrial.


karen torleyKaren Torley, who is campaigning for Mr Richey's release, said: "Previously, at the first trial, his original defence didn't do anything properly; there was no expert, there was no...anything like that at all at his trial, so this time Kenny's got his full defence where he can prove this fire wasn't an arson."
