Editorials Supporting a Retrial for Kenny.

Thursday, 07 July 2005

It is good that newspapers in USA are supporting a retrial for Kenny. The Toledo Blade's George Tanber investigated Kenny's case in 1998.

George spoke to people that no other newspaper could get for various reasons.  The investigation was thorough and due to various statements made by key people in this case, the entire 22,000 word article plus the editorial in support of a rehearing for Kenny ended up as part of Kenny's federal appeal.

The Toledo Blade supports Capital Punishment which is why it was unusual for them to speak out on behalf of a death row inmate.

Kenny has ALWAYS wanted a retrial and this is what this campaign has always been about. We too want the truth to be shown, just like the prosecution do.  The truth will show that Kenny Richey is an innocent man and that little Cynthia Collins died in an accidental house fire.

We want the evidence to be shown in its entirety. We want to show beyond all doubt that there was no arson in this case.

No arson means no murder. And this is what we will show in court.

Little Cynthia Collins died of smoke inhalation, that is a tragedy for her family. One I am sure they think of on a daily basis especially right now.

Cynthia was a beautiful little girl who sadly did not get the chance to grow up.

Our campaign has ALWAYS acknowledged that a little girl died in this fire. We have not shied away from mentioning her and remembering her. We always felt it was right to remember this little girl.

The wheels of justice have turned painfully slowly in this case. It is time those wheels picked up speed and this case is brought to its final conclusion.

We have fought long and hard for this re trial.  And would hope that Prosecutor Lammers will make sure that Kenny has the speedy trial he is entitled to after all these years.

To delay the trial only makes it harder for Cynthia's family and also for Kenny and his loved ones.

We want an end also to the pain and suffering that Justice Delayed forces both sets of families to endure.

I pray that Mr Lammers does the right thing and gets this process moving in a timely and fair manner.
