Campaigners stay confident over Richey
CAMPAIGNERS fighting for the release of Death Row Scot Kenny Richey say they remain confident he will be freed.
A one-hour-long hearing is to take place tomorrow, where a panel of three judges will reconsider his case.
It has reopened hope among campaigners that Richey, who grew up in Edinburgh, will be released - more than 20 years after he was jailed.
The hearing is to take place at 7.30pm UK time tomorrow in the 6th Circuit Federal Court of Appeal in Cincinnati.
And Karen Torley, who has headed the campaign to clear Richey's name, said: "We are prepared for a long wait after the hearing before we hear anything. Last time, the hearing was in May 2004 and we didn't get a decision until January 2005. But we've waited a long time already so we will wait another few months.
"I believe the evidence speaks for itself and we are hopeful that justice might be served. We will continue the battle for Kenny's freedom -we're just as committed to that as ever before."
Richey was convicted of arson and murder in the state of Ohio in 1986 and sentenced to death on 27 January 1987 but has always protested his innocence.
