Kenny Richey
Amnesty asks public to send Richey good luck messages AMNESTY International is calling on members of the public to send good luck cards to Death Row Scot Kenny Richey.
The international human rights organisation believes the support will lift Kenny's spirits ahead of his possible release in August this year.
Kenny's conviction for murdering a two-year-old girl was overturned by an Ohio appeal court in January.
Prosecutors have been told they must secure a retrial before August 14, or Edinburgh-born Kenny will be freed after 18 years under a death sentence.
A spokeswoman for Amnesty International UK said today: "This is the last gasp now for Kenny, but the state of Ohio is being so obstructive by not admitting defeat.
"Kenny is so near yet so far and we believe it would cheer him up if he knew just how many people were behind him.
"We would encourage as many people as possible to send him a card or a letter to wish him luck over the coming weeks."
Kenny has been on Death Row for 18 years after being convicted of the 1986 death of two-year-old Cynthia Collins in a Columbus Grove apartment fire.
Kenny has always maintained his innocence.
Cards should be addressed to: Mr Kenneth T Richey, A194764, DR Man CI, Po Box 788, Mansfield, Ohio, 44901.
